Fat Content of Common Foods (…you’re in for a surprise!)

When evaluating the fat content of food, it is important to remember that each gram of fat contains approximately 9 Food6calories of energy.   For example, a fried egg, which has 110 calories, has 10 grams of fat and 5 grams of protein.  Thus, 10×9=90 calories in the egg are from fat (or 82%), and 5×4=20 calories are from protein (18%).  When choosing which foods you eat, be aware of hidden fat!

Other examples of fat content in food:

* egg white:  15 calories; 4 g protein, traces of fat and carbohydrate (% of calories from fat: negligible)

* egg yolk:  60 calories; 3 g protein, 8 g fat, trace of carbohydrate (% of calories from fat: 80%)

*2% milk (1 cup):  120 calories, 9 g protein, 4 g fat, 12 g carbohydrate (% of calories from fat: negligible)

*plain donut:  180 calories, 1 g protein, 11 g fat, 18 g carbohydrate (% of  calories from fat: 55%)

* medium banana:  100 calories. 1 g protein, trace of fat, 26 g carbohydrate (% of calories from fat:  negligible)

* Big Mac:  541 calories, 26 g protein, 31 g fat, 39 g carbohydrates (% of calories from fat: 52%)

WHEN CHOOSING WHICH FOODS YOU EAT… BE AWARE OF HIDDEN FAT!!!
